Love One Another, Part 5

Text: Galatians 5:25-6:10; 1 John 3:11-24

Summary: in 1 John 3:11-24, John sets forth three contrasts between the children of God (i.e. his readers; 2:12-14) and the children of the devil (i.e., those who left, 2:19) to assure his readers of their status as the children of God.

Outline:

I. The children of God love fellow believers in the church. In contrast, the children of the devil hate fellow believers in the church (vv. 11-13).

II. The children of God have passed from death to life. In contrast, the children of the devil abide in death (vv. 14-15).

III. The children of God are generous toward fellow believers in need (v. 16). In contrast, the children of the devil are tight-fisted toward fellow believers in need (vv. 17-24).

     A. Love, vv. 16-18

         1. The nature and source of love, v. 16a

         2. The effect of love, v. 16b-18

In Galatians 6:6-10, Paul exhorts believers to give generously to all people in need, especially believers (6:6-10).

A. Believers are to generously support those who teach the gospel. v. 6

B. Believers are to generously sow to the Spirit rather than the flesh. vv. 7-9

C. Believers are to generously help all men, especially fellow believers. v. 10

    1. Generous giving is universal. v. 10a

    2. Generous giving is prioritized. v. 10b
