Loving God and the Children of God, Part 3

Text: 1 John 4:7-5:4a

Summary: In 1 John 4:7-5:4a, the Apostle John explains the nature of authentic love. He does this to refute the secessionists claims to love God and to assure his little children of their salvation. Today, in 1 John 4:17-5:4a, the Apostle John will explain the third element of the authentic nature of love, namely the perfection of God’s love. In this final section, John teaches that when God’s love has fully reached its goal in a believer’s life, it produces two results: confidence in judgment (4:17-18) and obedience to God’s commands (4:19-5:4a). Today, we are going to look at the first result, namely confidence in judgment (4:17-18).
