Knowing God, Part 1

Text: 1 John 2:3-11

Summary: In 2:3-11, John refutes three false claims (vv. 4, 6, 9) made by the secessionists to know God while not keeping His commandments. By refuting the false claims of the secessionists, John assures his "little children" (2:1) in the faith that they indeed know God and have eternal life (see 1 John 2:12-14; 5:13, 20).

Outline:

I. The claim to know God while not keeping His commandments. vv. 3-5a

To whom does John refer in 1 John 2:3a when he writes, “we have come to know Him?"
