Do Not Be Deceived!, Part 4

Text: 1 John 2:18-27

Summary: John’s primary aims in 1 John 2:18-27 are to warn and equip his children against the antichrists’ (i.e., secessionists’) attempts to deceive them. Therefore, John gives four instructions to his children to protect them from being deceived and led astray by the antichrists.

Outline: 

I. John reminds his readers (and us) to understand the time in which they live. v. 18

II. John identifies the deceivers who were threatening his children. vv. 19, 22-23 

III. John reminds his readers (and us) that they have an anointing from the Holy One. vv. 20-21, 27

IV. John exhorts his children to remain in the Apostolic gospel, which the Holy Spirit has taught them. vv. 24-25, 27
