Reflection:

""[The gospel] in the hand of the Holy Spirit…is a fire which penetrates, warms, softens, quickens, purifies, and comforts the heart. It is a light which assimilates (2 Corinthians 3:18) and truth which sanctifies (John 17:17). It is also the ‘law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus’ which, by making believers ‘free from the law of sin and death,’ brings them under the law to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:21). The design, too, of the ordinances of the gospel is that sinners may be converted to the love and practice of holiness, and that saints may enabled to abound more and more in every good word and work.” John Colquhoun, A Treatise on the Law and on the Gospel, 296-297.
