The Divine Service: Gospel-Driven Worship

Text: Selected Passages

Introduction:

What is worship? Why do we go to church?

Lesson:

In reply to, “What is worship?” and “Why do we go to church?,” the answer is this: We come to receive good gifts from God’s gracious hand because of Christ’s saving work for us and then and only then do we respond in confession, singing, faith, repentance, obedience, praying, giving, thanksgiving, acts of love/service to our neighbor. Central to this emphasis on “receiving” in worship is the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

Reflection:

“I am among you as the One who serves,” (Lk. 22:27).
